US surpasses 2025’s record number of measles infections as cases climb

The United States is facing a measles outbreak of historic proportions. The Guardian reports that as of Friday, the US has recorded two thousand three hundred eighteen cases of measles in twenty twenty-six—surpassing all of twenty twenty-five's cases, which totaled two thousand two hundred eighty-nine. This marks the worst year for measles in the country since nineteen ninety-one, and the highest case count since measles was officially declared eliminated in two thousand.
