More than 100,000 people flee or lock down as wildfires sweep France and Spain

More than one hundred thousand people have fled or been ordered to shelter in place as fierce wildfires sweep across Spain and France, according to The Guardian. Spain has declared a national emergency, while French authorities ordered the total evacuation, by land and sea, of the Cap Ferret peninsula on the Atlantic coast, one of the country's best-known holiday spots. The Guardian describes the blaze as intense and highly unpredictable, having already burned through more than twelve thousand five hundred hectares of forest. The evacuation is being carried out village by village as crews struggle to get ahead of the flames.
