Codeberg Bans Cryptocurrency and LLM-Generated Code Projects
ai
Codeberg, a community-led code hosting platform for open source projects, has formally banned projects whose code is substantially generated by large language models like Claude and OpenAI Codex. The move also includes a ban on scraping code for use in LLMs. A community vote on the LLM-generated code policy passed 358 to 144, with supporters citing license violations, the massive infrastructure costs of AI datacenters, and concerns about damage to the open-source community. Hackaday reports the new rules are now in Codeberg's Terms of Use.
