Introducing Claude Opus 5

ai

Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, a large language model that's now leading the Artificial Analysis leaderboard. Per Simon Willison, Anthropic claims the model delivers frontier-level intelligence at roughly half the price of Fable 5, while priced the same as its predecessor Opus 4.8, with an optional fast mode at double the cost. What makes Opus 5 distinctive is its proactivity—in one benchmark, when given a drawing of a machine part with no direct access to the image itself, the model wrote its own computer vision pipeline to extract the geometry from the raw pixels and rebuild the part. On security, Anthropic says Opus 5 improved at finding vulnerabilities, but was deliberately not trained on exploitation techniques—it remains substantially behind Mythos 5 when it comes to turning flaws into actual threats.
