Ruff v0.16.0

Ruff, the Python linting tool from Astral, rolled out version zero point one six point zero, and Simon Willison's Weblog is reporting the upgrade is breaking CI pipelines everywhere. The new version enables four hundred thirteen rules by default—up from just fifty-nine—marking the first major default rule-set change since version zero point one zero. Ruff's total rule library has grown from seven hundred eight to nine hundred sixty-eight, many of them catching serious issues like syntax errors and runtime problems that were previously overlooked. Willison tested the latest version against his three largest projects and found hundreds of violations against the new defaults. The bright side: Ruff includes an auto-fix mode that resolves most problems automatically, though edge cases like timezone-unaware datetime calls still demand a human touch.
