world
More than two hundred twenty thousand people have been evacuated from a major forest fire in southwest France that's threatening Bordeaux, The Guardian reports. Authorities have shut down a thirty-seven-mile stretch of the A63 highway between Bordeaux and the Spanish border, and officials describe it as one of the largest peacetime civilian evacuation operations France has ever carried out. Across the border, wildfires are also raging in Spain, with the combined toll now topping three hundred thousand people driven from homes and holiday accommodation.
