Australia's conducting the first nationwide test of a new emergency warning system called AusAlert on Monday, July twenty-seventh at two p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time. Per The Guardian, virtually every compatible phone—plus some smartwatches and tablets—will receive the alert, including an alert sound that cannot be silenced, even if your device is in do-not-disturb mode. The system is designed to guarantee that critical emergency warnings reach people regardless of their phone's settings.
