Pauline Hanson loses bid to overturn Mehreen Faruqi racial discrimination finding
politics
A court in Australia has upheld a finding that Pauline Hanson, leader of the One Nation party, engaged in racial discrimination against Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi. The Guardian reports the judges rejected Hanson's appeal of an earlier judgment, siding with the original ruling that her September 2022 tweet telling Faruqi to 'pack your bags and piss off back to Pakistan' breached Australia's Racial Discrimination Act. Justice Angus Stewart had previously found Hanson's behavior 'seriously offensive' and intimidating. The court's confirmation marks a legal victory for Faruqi and upholds the principle that such language violates anti-discrimination law.
