Per the Guardian, Pauline Hanson, leader of Australia's One Nation party, has made controversial statements about domestic violence and family law. In 2021 podcast comments that have recently surfaced, Hanson claimed domestic violence was being "used as a weapon" in court proceedings and criticized domestic violence support groups for their focus on female victims. She also opposed employer-provided paid domestic violence leave. Separately, One Nation colleague Malcolm Roberts has called the family court the "slaughterhouse of the nation," the Guardian says—marking the latest in a pattern of One Nation figures criticizing the family law system.
