Four bytes could freeze any Pentium in 1997

Boing Boing highlights a quirk of computing history: back in nineteen ninety-seven, four bytes of code could halt any Pentium processor. The sequence F zero zero F, C seven, C eight would instantly freeze machines using original Pentiums, Pentium MMX, or Pentium OverDrive chips. Discovered in November that year, the vulnerability became known as the F zero zero F bug.
