Burnham brings members of Socialist Campaign Group into government

The Socialist Campaign Group, Labour's most leftwing faction, has entered government for the first time. The Guardian reports that Andy Burnham has appointed three members as ministerial aides—formally known as parliamentary private secretaries. The new chief whip, Anneliese Midgley, has promised to elevate what's traditionally been an invisible role, giving the aides more media appearances, parliamentary responsibilities, and direct input on policy.
