Verizon touts $1B dark fiber deal for Google data centers as first of many

Ars Technica reports that Verizon is making a big bet on AI infrastructure. The telecom giant announced a deal worth over one billion dollars to connect Google data centers using dark fiber, and is also converting its central offices into small data centers for AI inference workloads. CEO Dan Schulman said the company expects additional AI deals worth multiple billions in revenue by year's end. The strategy reflects Verizon's focus on edge computing—bringing compute closer to where it's needed to support ultra-low latency applications like autonomous driving, remote surgery, and robotics.
