Sally McManus and Michele O'Neil are stepping down from leadership of Australia's largest union federation, the Australian Council of Trade Unions. The pair led the organization for eight years as its first all-female leadership team in its ninety-nine-year history. During their tenure, union membership has grown and workers have gained forty-seven new workplace rights. As the Guardian reports, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised the pair as 'giants of the labour movement,' saying their advocacy strengthened working families' financial positions.
