Trump asks Congress for $87.6B, mostly for Iran war

politics

The Trump administration asked Congress today for eighty-seven point six billion dollars in emergency funding. According to Axios, most of it—sixty-seven billion—would go to the Defense Department to cover costs from the Iran war, including twenty-one billion for munitions and seventeen point three billion for operations. The remainder includes eleven point one billion for farm support and one point four billion for the Ebola response in Central Africa. The request arrives amid a major debate over presidential war powers. The Senate recently passed a resolution seeking to limit military action against Iran without congressional approval, and lawmakers in both parties are questioning whether this war should have been formally authorized first. The House and Senate will now decide whether to approve the funding as submitted.
