Trump backs Pete Hegseth amid renewed tensions with Iran – as it happened

The Guardian reports that President Trump announced he has paused United States military strikes on Iran to give diplomacy a chance to succeed. He stressed, though, that if negotiations fail, he's ready for what he called 'very strong military action.' Trump told Axios that Washington is currently in deep talks with Iran, as tensions in the region remain elevated.
