This MAGA Influencer Runs a Charity to Teach Kids Civics. Much of the Money Goes to Him Instead.

ProPublica investigated the Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness, a nonprofit founded in twenty sixteen by Australian-born MAGA influencer Nick Adams that claims to have reached two million children with civics education. President Trump has praised Adams and appointed him as special presidential envoy for American tourism, exceptionalism and values, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also called FLAG a singular achievement in American education. But ProPublica found little evidence the nonprofit delivered that education—tax filings show almost no documented spending on schools or teachers since its founding. Instead, in twenty twenty-four alone, Adams and his mother collected combined compensation of five hundred eighty-seven thousand dollars, fifty-three percent of FLAG's revenue. Adams' salary rose sharply from nothing when FLAG started to over four hundred thousand dollars by twenty twenty-three. The nonprofit also raised money through a sweepstakes promising one million dollars, with no evidence the prize was ever paid.
