The Booker Prize longlist announced on Tuesday features two former winners—Douglas Stuart and Marlon James—plus three-time nominee Elizabeth Strout. The Guardian reports the thirteen competing novels hail from authors of seven nationalities across three continents, with nearly half by British writers. Ten of the authors are appearing on a Booker longlist for the first time, including three debuts. Chair of judges Mary Beard said each book 'takes the reader to new places,' reflecting the panel's appetite for risk and fresh literary voices.
