A magnitude seven point one earthquake has hit Kumamoto prefecture in Kyushu, Japan, leaving multiple people trapped inside a shopping centre and others missing at a paper factory, The Guardian reports. Kyushu Electric Power says forty-eight thousand homes lost power, while JR Kyushu suspended rail services, including its bullet trains. Kumamoto airport also shut its runway, forcing airlines to divert and cancel flights. Rescue efforts are ongoing as officials assess the scale of the damage.
