Sharkfin Bites Attack Shark

A developer named JR Lanteigne reverse-engineered the configuration protocol for the Attack Shark keyboard after discovering the official software only worked on Windows, per Hackaday. He created Sharkfin, a web-based configuration tool that works on any platform. The Attack Shark is based on ROYUAN hardware shared by five hundred twenty-two other keyboards sold under different brand names, so Lanteigne's work potentially unlocks configuration access for all of them. The reverse-engineering process involved patching the Windows-only Electron app to run on Linux, working around firmware quirks and flash-write speed issues that caused boot loops. Hackaday points out the real value here: when keyboard manufacturers shut down or move on, owners are left with hardware they can't configure—now, at least for this hardware family, that's no longer a problem.
