Meduza reports that Wall Street Journal correspondent Bojan Pancevski has published a new book detailing how Ukrainian operatives destroyed the Nord Stream gas pipelines in September 2022. Pancevski spent years investigating the sabotage, interviewing those who carried out the operation and the German investigators who concluded in 2024 that Ukraine's armed forces executed the attack. The operation deployed three Ukrainian military officers and four deep-sea divers aboard a rented yacht, destroying infrastructure worth twenty billion dollars for roughly two hundred fifty thousand dollars. The crew included a female diving instructor with nearly two decades of experience; according to military officials Pancevski interviewed, her encouragement proved crucial when team members hesitated in stormy Baltic conditions. Although Kyiv denies any involvement, with President Zelensky initially blaming Russia before later claiming ignorance of the operation, Pancevski's book presents the sabotage as an example of Ukraine's asymmetric, innovative approach to warfare.
