Florida executes man in first of two lethal injections planned in single day

A former police officer was executed by lethal injection in Florida on Tuesday for the on-duty rape and murder of a young girl, the Guardian reports. It was the first of two executions scheduled for the same day in the state, with an eighty-year-old man set to follow, on track to become the second-oldest inmate executed in modern US history. Florida hasn't carried out two executions in a single day in nearly a decade — the last time any state did so was Arkansas, back in twenty seventeen.
