Scoop: Trump asks Supreme Court to overturn $83M judgment for E. Jean Carroll

politics

Axios reports that President Trump's lawyers have asked the Supreme Court to overturn the eighty-three point three million dollar defamation judgment awarded to E. Jean Carroll. The judgment stemmed from Trump's 2019 statements denying Carroll's claim that he sexually assaulted her in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s. His legal team argues he's entitled to presidential immunity since the remarks came in response to reporters' questions about his fitness for office, and that a lower appeals court never actually ruled on that immunity question. It's the second time in two months the high court has weighed Carroll-related litigation, after declining in June to hear Trump's appeal of a separate five million dollar verdict.
