Sally was designed to interact naturally with students, answer questions, and provide personalized tutoring—and also operate as a digital avatar online. While AI tutors have shown promise in improving learning outcomes when they personalize instruction, research shows they work best alongside human teachers, not replacing them. The pause underscores a bigger issue: robots and AI in schools currently lack the regulatory frameworks and data protections that govern human educators.
