The Australian government is moving forward with a feasibility study for a new oil refinery in Western Australia's Pilbara region. On Tuesday, the Albanese administration committed four million dollars to the early-stage study—but The Guardian reports that leading climate experts are already calling it an uneconomic investment in outdated technology. They say the project would ultimately require government subsidies without meaningfully improving fuel security, and argue the funds would be better spent accelerating Australia's transition to green energy.
