Spain's prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, says the next twelve hours will be decisive in the fight to contain wildfires as temperatures climb into the low forties. The Guardian reports that while the fire near Madrid is gradually easing, a separate blaze near Vall d'Uixó in Castellón province remains out of control, according to Spanish broadcaster RTVE. It has already burned nearly ten thousand hectares across eighty-one kilometers, forcing the evacuation of roughly ten thousand people. Firefighters now race against the heat to keep it from spreading further.
