Air Purifiers as White Noise Machines
tech
LessWrong is reporting on a surprisingly practical upgrade to the classic white noise machine: just swap it for an air purifier. The idea is simple—a small purifier like a forty-seven-dollar model can sound nearly identical to a traditional noise machine while actually filtering smoke and particles from your air. For example, a six-point-five-inch purifier running at forty-five decibels cleans thirty-four cubic feet of air per minute. That might sound modest, but in a typical ten-foot-square room, it would cut particulate levels to just sixteen percent of the outdoor air. If you want more aggressive filtering, the AirFanta 3Pro at one hundred sixty-five dollars cleans six times as much air at the same noise level, or twelve times as much if you tolerate more sound. It's a clever two-for-one: white noise that actually works for you.
