Collaborations and primary elections boosted traffic to public media sites this quarter
other
Public media traffic ticked up this spring on the back of election coverage and cross-newsroom collaborations, Nieman Lab reports. KCUR in Kansas City saw nearly one hundred seventy thousand more visits in April than March after two collaborative investigations landed close together — one on the Trump administration shutting down the country's premier bee research lab, the other on a Missouri police sniper made a state trooper despite having killed a two-year-old girl in a standoff. KQED in San Francisco picked up roughly eight hundred eighty-five thousand additional April visits, driven partly by its coverage of California's tumultuous gubernatorial primary, including candidate Eric Swalwell's exit from the race after a sexual assault accusation. Nieman Lab notes the station has also been repurposing text stories into vertical video for a second life on social platforms.
