Three firefighters killed on Crete and in mainland Greece as Europe battles wildfires

Three Greek firefighters have died battling wildfires on Crete and in mainland Greece, the Greek fire department says, as extreme heat hampers efforts to contain blazes across southern Europe. The Guardian reports the fires stretch in an arc from the Atlantic coast to the eastern Mediterranean, with many burning out of control near towns and cities.
