Detecting Environmental Hazards with a Wearable Patch

North Carolina State University researchers have created a wearable patch slightly smaller than a driver's license that detects environmental toxins — gases, aerosols, and contaminated water — and alerts wearers through skin vibrations. Per Adafruit Blog, the device contains a microcontroller, a small battery, sensors for six different hazards, and a haptic motor, all powered by thin-film solar cells on its surface that harvest energy as you wear it.
