Ukraine appeals IOC’s reinstatement of Russia’s Olympic committee to the Court of Arbitration for Sport

sports

Ukraine's Olympic committee has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, challenging the International Olympic Committee's decision to reinstate Russia's Olympic committee. The core issue: whether Russia has genuinely reformed. The IOC stripped Russia's Olympic status in twenty twenty-three because Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine were included in the Russian Olympic Committee's structure. Russia later removed those councils and promised not to operate in occupied regions, leading the IOC to lift sanctions in July — freeing Russian athletes to compete under their flag and in team events. Ukraine contends this was merely a cosmetic fix that doesn't address the underlying structural violation. According to Meduza, the IOC's decision has infuriated Ukraine and its European allies, with nine EU nations urging the European Commission to defund the IOC.
