Using Video Glasses As a Camera Viewfinder Is Harder Than It Looks

Per Hackaday, filmmaker John Dingley needed a workaround for his Sony ZV-E10 camera: it lacks a built-in viewfinder, making it difficult to frame shots in bright sunlight or from awkward angles. His solution—XREAL video glasses as a wireless viewfinder—hit a snag: the camera outputs HDMI through a micro connector, but the glasses expect USB-C. Dingley engineered a tidy cable assembly with a custom camera cage that consolidates everything into a single USB-C interface, complete with a power bank. Now he can film from low angles, especially for vehicles, while seeing the live shot through the glasses and maintaining awareness of his surroundings.
