Australia news live: Acma takes Optus to court over triple-zero outage; bird flu reaches Victoria
politics
The Guardian reports that Australia's Minister for Indigenous Australians, Malarndirri McCarthy, has announced that one of the nation's Closing the Gap targets has been reached: early childhood education enrolment for First Nations children. McCarthy credits this progress to Aboriginal community-controlled sectors and preschool providers. However, challenges persist with other targets, and she's expressed particular concern about high incarceration rates among First Nations people and the difficulty of addressing them through existing legislation. McCarthy says the government must push harder and work with states and territories on justice-related outcomes.
