Campaigners rail against ‘plundering’ of ancient Kent woodland to make way for quarry expansion

Forty hectares of Oaken Wood in Kent have been identified as a potential site for quarry expansion by the Reform-run local council. The Guardian reports that the ancient woodland—particularly a historic area called Seven Wents—features on maps dating back at least four hundred years, when it served as a route for Kent residents traveling between communities including East Malling, Barming, Ditton, and Teston. Campaigners are opposing the potential expansion, arguing the woodland's ancient status and historical significance make it worth preserving.
