Archibald prize 2026: portrait of Jewish leader after Bondi terror attack wins people’s choice award

Artist Michael Zavros has won the Archibald Prize's people's choice award, and its five thousand dollar prize, for a portrait of Alex Ryvchin, co-head of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, The Guardian reports. Zavros said he was drawn to what he called Ryvchin's unmistakably and unashamedly Jewish leadership, along with a striking resemblance between the two men. The portrait was completed just weeks after the Bondi terror attack, according to the paper.
