Gina Rinehart paid $1.2 million to Australia’s Commonwealth Games swimmers. Is there any problem with that?

Australia's Dolphins swimming team shattered records at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, winning seventy-six medals. Gina Rinehart, Australia's richest person and longtime swimming patron, rewarded the achievement with more than one point two million dollars in bonuses. According to The Conversation, though, the generosity raises ethical questions: Rinehart recently endorsed Pauline Hanson's One Nation party, and some swimmers were reportedly warned against publicly thanking her, suggesting possible strings attached. The timing also echoes a previous sponsorship dispute when Hancock Prospecting withdrew a fifteen million dollar deal with the netball team over objections to the company's logo and its association with historically racist remarks.
