RC Telemetry Board Lets Virtual Crewmember Help You Race Better
tech
Per Hackaday, Open RC Spotter is an open-source telemetry platform for RC car racing built on an ESP32 microcontroller. It logs readings from inertial sensors, GPS, and lap-detection beacons to capture position, velocity, lap times, and battery voltage. The standout feature: it supports Crew Chief, a free Windows application that normally serves as a virtual race engineer for sim racing. Connect your RC telemetry to Crew Chief, and you get real-time voice feedback about your performance. The system also broadcasts data wirelessly and can serve log files through a temporary WiFi access point, giving racers new tools for analyzing how they drove.
