Families to no longer be housed in billionaire-owned tower after suffering without air con

Several London councils have agreed to stop using a nineteen-storey tower block in Colliers Wood for emergency housing, per The Guardian, after the newspaper revealed that residents were prohibited from using built-in air-conditioning during heatwaves. Residents were told the air-con hadn't been 'offered as an amenity'—leaving them unable to stay cool as the fourth heatwave of the year gripped the UK. One resident, Benice Bodah, a forty-eight-year-old mother of three teenage sons, spent almost three years in a two-bedroom flat where the air-conditioning worked only intermittently, despite sweltering conditions. The block is owned by billionaire Asif Aziz's Criterion Capital and managed through letting agencies as temporary housing, and the councils' decision marks an end to the arrangement.
