Battery Storage Startup Antora Closes $550M Series C In One Of Year’s Largest Cleantech Rounds

tech

Antora Energy, which makes thermal batteries for data centers, closed a five hundred fifty million dollar Series C funding round. The financing was led by G2 Venture Partners and Eclipse, with backing from Breakthrough Energy Ventures—Bill Gates' investment fund—as well as BlackRock and others. Per Crunchbase News, Antora has raised seven hundred seventy million dollars since twenty seventeen. The company stores electricity as heat in insulated carbon blocks, then releases it as power or heat around the clock without requiring scarce minerals or years-long construction. Those modules work for data centers, power plants, and the electrical grid alike. Antora plans to deploy large-scale projects nationwide to meet surging energy demand from artificial intelligence data centers. The company recently completed what it calls one of the world's largest battery storage installations—a five gigawatt-hour system in South Dakota—and operates one of the country's largest battery factories from its San Jose headquarters.
