American Red Cross declares second-ever national blood supply crisis

The American Red Cross has declared a national blood supply crisis — only the second such declaration in its one-hundred-forty-five-year history. Donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, leaving the Red Cross with less than one day's supply of type O positive blood, the most commonly transfused blood type in the United States.
