Pizza Eye Surgery Saves Hemispherical Projector

tech

Hackaday reports that DNA Pizza in San Francisco hosted a beloved hemispherical projector displaying a giant eye that greeted diners for nine years—until a power outage knocked it offline. Owner Jamie Zawinski refused to let the installation go dark, so he performed creative surgery: swapping in a cheap replacement projector paired with a fisheye macro lens that was never meant for this purpose. The results exceed expectations—despite fuzzing at the edges and not quite filling the whole dome, the patch works surprisingly well, proving that sometimes the best solutions come from the toolbox, not the manual.
