U.S. sees progress toward deal to disarm Hamas, rebuild Gaza

world

The White House and Trump's Board of Peace believe Hamas may be close to signing an agreement to disarm and demilitarize Gaza, according to Axios, though Hamas has not yet given final approval. The deal would decommission Hamas' weapons over six to eight months, hand governing authority to a new technocratic body, and let Israel pull back to the so-called Yellow Line as implementation proceeds. Talks are underway in El Alamein, Egypt, with Qatar and Turkey pressing Hamas to sign while Iran urges it to stall. Axios reports Israeli officials remain deeply skeptical Hamas will actually follow through, even as mounting financial pressure pushes the group toward the table.
