HSBC to pull out of Australian retail banking market

According to the Guardian, London-based HSBC is exiting Australia's retail banking market. The bank will close all Australian branches over the next eighteen months, selling its mortgage and personal loan portfolio to Blackstone, a global asset manager. This ends HSBC's decades-long presence in Australian retail banking, though the bank will continue private and institutional banking services.
