Building a Reproduction PlayStation Motherboard

Per Hackaday, developer xyzz has released an open-source reproduction motherboard for the original PlayStation. Licensed under a public domain creative commons license and available on GitHub, the board serves as a drop-in replacement for damaged originals. It requires transplanting proprietary components—the CPU, GPU, RAM, sound chips, and various other parts—from a donor PlayStation motherboard. The current design has some challenges, including fit issues with the lid switch and difficult soldering points, but early testing shows it's already functional. For retro enthusiasts with badly damaged machines, it offers a real shot at bringing consoles back to life that might otherwise be beyond repair.
