Archbishop of Canterbury vows to support £100m pledge helping communities affected by enslavement

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, visited Cape Coast Castle in Ghana on Thursday, marking her first trip to the country. At the seventeenth-century fortress where thousands of enslaved Africans were held before being transported across the Atlantic, she expressed lament for the Church of England's historical involvement in slavery and pledged support for a one hundred million pounds fund for affected communities. According to The Guardian, Mullally characterized the fund as a symbol of Christian repentance.
