The Burpee Covered Bridge in New Brunswick is a relic of romance. Built around nineteen thirteen, covered bridges across the province earned the nickname kissing bridges—shielded from view by wooden beams and roofs, couples could steal private moments during their journey. Once the province boasted hundreds; today, only about sixty-two remain. The fifty meter Burpee Bridge, near Chipman, shows how the tradition endures. Per Atlas Obscura, high school graduates have decorated the interior, and couples still linger inside—proving that some ways of stealing a kiss outlast the horses that once carried them.
