TB 26-04 Webbings for Use in Elevated Oxygen Environments

NASA News reports that the agency's engineering and safety center has validated a new webbing for use in the high-oxygen environments planned for future lunar and Martian missions. The material—a blend of sixty percent Kevlar and forty percent polybenzimidazole from Sturges Manufacturing Company—passed flammability testing at thirty-seven percent oxygen and eight point two psia. Standard spaceflight materials like nylon and meta-aramids don't meet fire-safety requirements under these conditions. The research supports potential use in crew restraints, mobility aids, and storage systems, though NASA emphasizes that complete flight configurations will need additional validation.
