Full Fact is battling AI-generated elections content with AI tools of its own

According to Nieman Lab, Full Fact, a UK-based fact-checking organization, is deploying AI tools to combat AI-generated election content. The spark: a campaign video showing a politician meeting voters, visiting schools, and greeting hospital patients—all fabricated using generative AI, then labeled as "illustrative." Full Fact is fighting back with machine-learning models designed to detect synthetic media, catching deepfakes and AI-generated imagery before they spread. It's a fitting twist: as elections grow vulnerable to synthetic misinformation, fact-checkers are arming themselves with the same technology to verify reality.
