MLB wants max 5 years for FAs changing teams

According to ESPN, Major League Baseball is proposing new rules for the next collective bargaining agreement. The league wants to limit free agents who switch teams to five-year maximum contracts. However, teams would retain the right to sign their own homegrown players for up to six years under what MLB calls a Cornerstone Player Provision. The proposal essentially gives teams longer control over talent they develop internally, while capping how long players can sign elsewhere as free agents.
