As south-eastern Europe grapples with a heatwave straining power grids, Romania has taken an unconventional approach. The Guardian reports that Romanian naval forces carried out a controlled explosion using one hundred eighty kilograms of explosives to move a large rock restricting water flow in the Old Danube. The goal: divert more water to the Cernavodă nuclear power plant for emergency cooling.
