In a rare example of American manufacturing persistence, Fiesta Tableware still makes its iconic dinnerware in Newell, West Virginia — the same place where the company built a purpose-designed pottery town over a century ago. Per Atlas Obscura, the Laughlin brothers founded the company in Ohio in eighteen seventy-one, but by nineteen zero-two they'd transformed an open field in Newell into a complete industrial community. At its peak, Plant Number Four was the world's largest pottery factory, churning out roughly three hundred thousand pieces daily. The Fiesta line itself — with its signature concentric rings and bold, solid-colored dishes — debuted in nineteen thirty-six and revolutionized American table design by replacing the floral patterns that had dominated cupboards. More than one million pieces sold in its second year alone. Today, visitors can browse the outlet right beside the factory — one of the few American brands that still manufactures domestically, letting customers buy the iconic dinnerware straight from its source.
